The team led by Petr Šipula makes sure that everything happening on CNC's websites is precisely measured. It sits at the start of the data processes for measuring website traffic and makes sure that every click, every view and every interaction is correctly recorded. Thanks to them, CNC has a solid foundation for the work of editorial, product and business teams.

The three-person web analytics team led by Petr Šipula plays a crucial role at CNC. It sits at the start of the data processes for measuring website traffic and ensures that every click, every view and every interaction is correctly recorded. Thanks to them, CNC has a solid data foundation for the work of editorial teams, product teams and business decisions.

“Our work is often invisible, and that is actually good. When everything runs smoothly, it is a sign that we have set up measurement correctly. Despite redesigns, technological changes and daily development, we keep the system running,” says Petr.

Server-side GA4: less cost, more control

Web analytics at CNC runs on Google Analytics 4, but not in the usual form. The team uses a server-side solution, which gives them greater flexibility, lower costs and better data protection. Data from the websites does not go directly to GA, but through its own server, which acts like a railway hub that decides where everything goes. For example, into BigQuery, where the data is then cleaned and aggregated.

“Thanks to this, we have full control over what is collected and how it is then used. And it has also let us build our own real-time analytics system, which is very efficient both functionally and financially.”

What does the team handle?

  • Sets up measurement via GTM and server-side
  • Runs data pipelines in BigQuery and Keboola
  • Builds real-time analytics (Looker)
  • Processes data for NetMonitor (industry benchmarks)
  • Handles measurement and sends data to external platforms (Meiro, Facebook)
  • Works with development and data teams across the company

Technologically, they mainly work with SQL, JavaScript and Python. Data quality is key for reports. Caring for it is an important part of the team's work. Automated testing of website measurement helps with this, among other things.
