The Message to Radio feature lets listeners send a voice message straight to the radio through the mobile app. The message reaches the presenters, who can play it on air or react to it. After its successful launch on Frekvence 1, we are now introducing this feature to the Evropa 2 app as well.
We wanted to strengthen the bond between listeners and their radio even further, so in cooperation with the agency Qubix we developed a new feature, Message to Radio. Its principle is simple: the listener records a voice message of up to 30 seconds, which reaches the presenters directly. They can use it on air, either as a reaction or by playing it straight through.
We first deployed it in the mobile apps (iOS and Android) of Frekvence 1. We put a lot of care into user testing, tuned its safety so that a listener could not send a message by accident, and at the same time made it friendly for older listeners too.
Message to Radio also uses AI: every message is automatically transcribed and tagged by an AI module. Presenters therefore have not only the original recording but also its text version, and they are alerted to any potentially inappropriate content (for example, vulgar language), which lets them decide more quickly whether to use the message on air.
Scalability first
We build our mobile apps on a single codebase (in the native languages Swift and Kotlin) with a modular architecture. This means we can easily test new features in one app and then roll them out to others. The same was true for Message to Radio, which after its pilot launch on Frekvence 1 is now being added to the Evropa 2 apps as well.
Tvoje Evropa 2
Evropa 2, together with Frekvence 1, is among the most listened-to radio stations in Czechia. While Frekvence 1 targets an older audience, which uses voice messages less, Evropa 2 focuses on an audience accustomed to the digital world. This is also confirmed by the results of the Evropa 2 mobile app, which more than half a million people have downloaded on Android alone.
Evropa 2 is also unique in its relationship with listeners, which we strengthen through maximum interactivity, most recently for example through the option to smartly skip songs, ads and presenter segments.
We therefore expect a significant increase in audio messages sent through Message to Radio in the Evropa 2 app.
