The 14th edition of the Hudební ceny Evropy 2 has its winners. Mark Dann took home two awards, Linkin Park dominated the international scene and Ewa Farna confirmed her position as the most successful Czech female singer. But more than the results, the whole event shows how traditional media build a relationship with their audience.

On Tuesday, 3 February, the popular Hudební ceny Evropy 2 were presented in Hagibor . Three hours of live broadcast, fifteen categories, dozens of guests. Listeners could vote from 5 to 27 January, casting one vote per category every day. It is this possibility of daily participation that gives the voting a different dynamic from one-off polls. People keep coming back, follow the changes as they happen and take an active part.

The results are not just about popularity, but also about who has an active fan base. That fan base today exists not only at concerts but mainly online. Social networks, streams, sharing. Everything plays a role.

Who scored on the domestic scene?

Mark Dann took home two awards. He won the award for Domestic DJ of the Year and also succeeded in the Domestic Song of the Year category for the track Let Me Die, which he made together with Giovanni Ricci. In both cases he performed live in the studio.

Ewa Farna became the domestic female singer and at the same time the overall winner. Vojtěch Dyk became Domestic Singer of the Year, the band Sebastian won the Domestic Band of the Year category, and Xindl X scored with his music video Puberťák. Singer Slavíček became Domestic Discovery of the Year, Calin received the award for Domestic Rap Artist, and the best album was Khaosan by the duo Ben Cristovao and Sofian Mejdmejd.

Linkin Park dominate the international scene

Linkin Park won two awards: International Band of the Year, and their song Up From The Bottom won in the International Song of the Year category. Ed Sheeran took home the award for International Singer of the Year, and Dua Lipa won among international female singers. Martin Garrix dominated the International DJ of the Year category, and Sombr succeeded in International Discovery.

Data instead of voting

The Youradio Most Streamed Song category was interesting, because no voting took place there at all. Clean numbers decided. How many times people played the song, liked it and saved it to a playlist. The winner was End Of the World by Miley Cyrus. This shows the difference between who people vote for and what they actually listen to.

A ritual that works

The Hudební ceny Evropy 2 are not just an annual chart. They are a ritual that repeats every year and creates a sense of belonging. Listeners look forward to them, know when they can vote, follow the nominations and guess the winners. This predictability and engagement are exactly what successful creator projects are built on. Direct connection with the community, data analysis, live interaction. All of these are tools that work for successful creators.

A number of personalities presented the awards, from Leoš Mareš to cross-country skier Kateřina Neumannová, as well as Dagmar Jandová and Václav Slabyhoudek from the show Na lovu. The hosts were Tomáš Zástěra and Zorka Hejdová.
