On 12 May 2026, Spotify launched a mobile experience in 144 markets and 16 languages called Spotify 20, officially Your Party of the Year(s). The activation shows users their first played track, their sign-up date, their total number of unique songs, their most-played artist of all time, and a personal playlist of their 120 most-played tracks with the play count for each.
Spotify product manager Axel Ulfson described the difference from Wrapped in one sentence in Billboard. Wrapped “reflects a single year in culture and listening”, while Party of the Year(s) shows “the full listener journey from the moment they joined Spotify”.
The activation came a week after the first-quarter results. Spotify reported 761 million monthly active users in Q1 2026, up 12% year on year. Premium subscribers now number 293 million. Revenue topped €4.5 billion. Co-CEO Alex Norström wrote in the report that “users in key markets like the US are listening and watching more days per month. All that reinforces our confidence in sustained user and subscriber growth, low churn.”
Lifetime data as the platform’s new currency
Spotify has been collecting listening traces for twenty years, every track with a timestamp. Wrapped opens that database once a year, covering up to twelve months of data. Party of the Year(s) opens it up in full for the first time.
For most European and American users, that means seven to fifteen years of records. The experience works only on mobile, version 9.1.46 and above, with shareable cards styled as vertical Snapchat slots.
Spotify applied the same logic to its developer API in February 2026. Analyst Apolline Reymond described the split between Development Mode and Extended Quota Mode as “end of open data for the music business”. Anyone without 250,000 monthly active users does not get access to catalogue data.
At the same time, Spotify pushes collective records onto users. Variety listed the campaign’s all-time rankings. The most-listened-to artist of all time on Spotify is Taylor Swift. The most-streamed song is “Blinding Lights” by The Weeknd. The most-played album is “Un Verano Sin Ti” by Bad Bunny. The most-listened-to podcast is “The Joe Rogan Experience”.
Angela Leffell, who leads global brand and activation programmes, told Billboard: “We always wanted this to feel really rooted in our users.”
Royalties and the music industry
In 2025 Spotify paid out more than $11 billion to the music industry. Cumulatively, the total reached $70 billion. In 2025, 13,800 artists generated more than $100,000 from Spotify, 1,400 more than the previous year. Fifteen hundred artists earned a million. Eighty artists earned more than $10 million. An artist in the 100,000th position of the ranking earned $7,300, compared with $350 in 2015.
Seventy-five countries have at least one artist with annual payouts above $500,000, up from sixty-six in 2024. Spotify states that artists who debuted in the last two years receive most of their royalties from abroad. Over two decades the platform has normalised long-tail payouts across half the planet, alongside debates about rates and boycotts over former CEO Daniel Ek’s investments in military AI.
Podcasts within the campaign
Party of the Year(s) presents the most-played podcast as a global fact across the whole campaign, while the music top four is a personalised item in the recap. Variety confirmed that the most-streamed podcast of all time on Spotify is The Joe Rogan Experience.
Spotify today has around seven million podcast titles and more than 590,000 video podcasts.
Competition in music streaming
Spotify is not the only service opening up long-term listening history. Apple Music launched Replay in November 2019, which shows users their top songs, albums and artists for every year since they opened their account. Amazon Music launched Delivered in December 2024, its own version of a year-end recap. French Deezer launched My Deezer Year 2025 in December 2025.
Co-CEO Gustav Söderström said in the Q1 earnings report that he sees “significant room to grow across users, formats and engagement and to expand what Spotify is.” The Q1 report also cites 700,000+ audiobooks in 22 markets and 1,400+ workout videos through the Peloton partnership.
